How am I 52 years old and this is the first day I found out about The Heroine’s Journey? How?

Excuse me whilst I disappear down a wormhole. I’m off to finish reading The Writer’s Journey by Vogler and then The Heroine’s Journey by Murdock. Here’s Murdock’s webpage and explanation of her theory.

I can feel many jigsaw pieces slotting neatly into place.

Any other stuff I should be reading in this vein? Murdock was 1990 so there must have been some more theory since then? You gotta hope.

  1. Have you read The Heroines Journey by Gail Carriger? Very different from Murdock it is more about how to use a Heroines journey within writing. I found it really liberating as I struggle with the idea that the heroes journey is the only way to tell a story.

      1. The Murdock is more the psychology/ personal development while the carriger is about writing stories that use the alternative heroines journey, it also brilliantly explains the hero’s journey and its limitations. I knew i didn’t like the hero’s journey and Carriger helped me see why
